Using art to navigate an uncertain future

This morning my thoughts seem to be a bit more orderly. It’s a friday and I begin with yoga and some light meditation. I’ve met another goal in my escape from wage slavery. I made an account on picarto.tv to grow an audience and become more comfortable with digital painting. I’m still learning the basics of using these tools alongside traditional art methods. I’ll admit this is exciting. Since I’ve stopped drinking, I’ve been using art to navigate an uncertain future.

Creative pursiuts, such as art, is something I find myself coming back to in times of uncertainty. I know jobs, relationships, money etc. never truly last. Art is one of the few ways I try to reclaim myself as society confronts the persistant white inferiority complex systems. Finding niche communities to learn and grow with is an acceptable work around to the oppressive tension that vilifies my being.

When I learn or make art, I truly feel like myself again. There’s no stress, no worry or anxiety; just a sense of completeness. Doing art for me is participating in the expanding knowledge of the Human Species. The fact that so many now have the abiltiy to participate without the artificial barriers of class and presitige is liberating.

Creating art also helps me restore my empathy with Humanity. In the day to day world, there are subtle ways in which progress is hindered because it upsets the status-quo. By making art, I’m no longer a consumer but a producer of my own thoughts and feelings in the world. In a sense it restores the dignity that is constantly stripped away in an grossly inequal society. It removes the barries of communication by expressing what I feel but never have the words to properly express.
